Going pro and other stories
So recently I haven’t been online as much as usual but sometimes other stuff must take priority despite my insta-addiction. I have been busy pushing forward with my handmade business. Shops have been contacting me, I’ve had some very inspiring custom orders and about 6 weeks ago I got a second hand (very vintage) industrial sewing machine. It took ages to find once I had decided it was the way to go but it was a very exciting ‘going-pro’ turning point! To be honest it wasn’t plain sailing even after we found the right one and managed to get it into our second floor apartment, no sooner had I nicknamed this intimidating noisy metal beast ‘the dinosaur’ then it decided to give up. The joys of second hand purchased I suppose! Disaster since I had a pile of bags to sew and my little home sewing machine is about ready to call it a day too, it’s cranky and whines about having to sew bags when it’s only meant to do light patchwork cushions… so it thinks. Anyway the motor breakdown turned out to be a blessing because the shop I bought it from kindly replaced the airplane-jet-at-take-off sounding one for a nice small quiet motor which I’m sure my neighbours are delighted about too.
I also spent a lot of time working on a new print and some new bag and purse designs. This leafy print was the first layered colour one I have done and I think it worked out pretty well.
So it’s been an exciting yet tough few weeks and unfortunately my Etsy shop, website and blog have been terribly neglected. For the second half of this year I fully intend to get it all back on track with lots of new items including non-leather strap handbags and more practical bags and purses. Can’t wait to get cracking but for now I’m on holiday!! I’ll share some photos soon of my West Cork (Ireland) adventures which mainly involved relaxing and drinking a lot of tea.
